Beyond Recycling: Behind the Scenes with the Ninja Spy Detectives

Image
Most people acquainted with Beyond Recycling Services know we help a lot of people save money on trash and recycling service. Did you know that we are also Ninja Spy Detectives who have #trashtag experience? 1. Unsolved Mysteries: The Case of the Bent Beam: We received a strange phone call the morning of February 1st. Somehow the support beam of a beloved client's dumpster corral had been struck with enough force to bend the giant galvanized steel I-beam that supports the roof, tearing it away from the top of the enclosure. Check it out (points of impact emphasized): This was a tough case to crack. The client has two vendors with equipment in the corral, which meant we had two suspects. Suspect #1 had confessed to ramming their dumpster through a corral wall last year after first claiming the plastic dumpster lids resting on said wall had caused the damage. They have since paid their debt to society: Suspect #2 did not have any priors, at least to the best of our...

New Opportunities in the Sunshine State

Image
Beyond Recycling Services had the privilege of attending a profitability summit in Orlando this week. We are excited about the twenty-five new restaurants that enrolled in our cost savings program! We cannot wait to demonstrate the best rates and service the waste management industry has to offer to these new clients. We are always grateful for the opportunity to serve our clients. Below is a handout we provided at the meeting that summarizes our restaurant cost-savings program for waste and recycling service:

Is our Recycling being Recycled?

Image
In case you missed it (like I did), below is a link to NBC's recent segment on recyclable materials being sent to landfills: https://www.nbcnews.com/nightly-news/video/why-your-recycling-may-end-up-in-landfills-1263761987508 This is a call to action for America to develop the infrastructure to coordinate localized recycling processing, thereby creating jobs, decreasing material costs, and becoming more self-sufficient. We should also weigh the cost of single-use plastics and Styrofoam packaging vs. compostable packaging alternatives.

Death, Taxes, and Rising Disposal Costs: Which is Uncertain?

Image
Our last Blog featured a quote from the great Benjamin Franklin. The title of this article is a nod to Franklin's famous "death and taxes" quote. Tax season is here, and we found this quote fitting to address the subject of rising disposal and recycling costs. The costs of waste management and recycling service will almost always increase over time lest you seek professional help. How can your organization avoid or minimize increases? Contact Beyond Recycling Services immediately. When it comes to price increases, please note that a few types of price increases are legitimate. For instance, if there is a government-mandated landfill that every hauler must use in your county (in industry terms "flow control"), and that landfill increases the cost of disposal per ton, then every vendor in the area has to increase their price proportionally. If your business doubles in sales from year one to year two and you need twice as many pick-ups, that is also a legitimate ...

From the Dump to the Piggy Bank

Image
This little piggy went from "L" to "P" on your P&L In the words of Benjamin Franklin, "A penny saved is a penny got." This expression is  commonly misquoted , "earned" being substituted for "got". To the modern-day business owner, a penny not wasted is as important to profitability as any other form of equity. What does Benjamin Franklin have to do with Beyond Recycling Services? In a word: everything . Our business is built on the principle of helping businesses visualize how they can retain money that would otherwise be spent on waste management, and taking the steps to make that vision a reality. Your business can save hundreds of dollars per month at each facility with our help. We can prove it, and put you in touch with business owners who are living out what was once a concept presented to them by our team. Ryan Doss, Director of Finance for 21 Zaxby's restaurants throughout five states, put it this way: “We have ...

The Trash Bill Blues

Image
Have you ever had to call your trash company about the price for service? Were you expecting one price when you set up service, but when you looked at the bill that arrived in the mail, you sat wide-eyed and confused as you tried to make sense of the litany of different fees they had imposed? Have you seen your trash costs go up inch-by-inch, and eventually come to a breaking point over how expensive service had become? If waste and recycling bills have caused you undue angst, you are not alone. It is common practice throughout the waste industry for haulers to pad their commercial account invoices with all kinds of fees and unexpected charges. Some of these charges are for late-night pictures taken of a bag next to your dumpster, complete with fuel fees on top of the picture fee, as if the garbage-truck driver's camera burns a gallon of diesel every time they take a picture. Delivery fees, removal fees, administrative fees, environmental fees, dumpster refreshment fees - these ...
